Description

Xanadu (pronounced… Zan a du)... West Australia’s Margaret River wine region is world renowned, especially for its Bordeaux like reds and world class Chardonnays. It’s Shiraz sometimes flies under the radar but is no less impressive… clearly Australian it also has the spicy, savoury attributes of a Northern Rhone Syrah. Xanadu estate is one of Margaret River’s earliest Pioneers and although their wines are infinitely more accessibly priced than the regions pricey elite… Located on the coast, the cooling night-time sea breezes perfectly contrast the very warm days. Xanadu passionately produce incredible quality across their whole range, but as aforementioned…they do so minus the regions often expensive price tags. Despite its accessible price, Circa 77 is expensively crafted Shiraz… they don’t cut any corners. The fruit was destemmed and then crushed with open rollers to introduce whole berries into the ferment. After fermentation in both static and rotary fermenters, the various batches underwent MLF and 14 months maturation in a selection of fine French oak barriques (generous 25% new oak) prior to assembling the blend and bottling. It tastes of all the things we love about Margaret River... perfectly ripe, spicy, mouth filling Shiraz without being exuberantly jammy. Bound by fine grained tannins within a creamy texture, it’s total harmony on the luscious finish. Enjoy now through 2027-2029.

Smells

Blackberry, plum, violets, mulberries, subtle toastiness and savoury spice… an alluring assortment of aromas.

Tastes

Supple tannins embrace the generous, medium to full-bodied palate while a fresh symphony of black fruits, liquorice and dark chocolate flood your taste buds. Quintessential Australian Shiraz with a touch of Rhone spiciness and pepperiness of a Hawkes Bay Syrah. The luscious, rounded acidity makes the flavours sing. The balance and structure shine, after one sip, you’re going to want to drink this gorgeous Margaret River Shiraz for as long as you can. Drinking well now through 2027-2029… perfect for BBQ’d or grilled dishes, hard cheeses and just for drinking.
