Kākāpō Distillery was founded on three key ideas: a love for Aotearoa, a passion for its conservation, and a desire to make a damn good drop of gin. A warming touch of spice, a lingering herbal note of kawakawa, and with a strong juniper presence. Kawakawa provides its signature taste of strong herbal notes and peppery warmth on the palate to make for a unique, flavourful gin. Picked from the Peruvian pepper tree, Pink Peppercorn is distinctly unique, with a light floral quality, a hint of tart raspberry sweetness and a lingering spice. The delicate botanical adds warmth and balance to our gin and is a perfect match with kawakawa.
As a kiwi company, Kākāpō Distillery acknowledges that their understanding of kawakawa comes from matauranga māori (Māori knowledge).
