Description

RD stands for recently disgorged (or rather ‘recemment degorge’ in French) and Bollinger have trademarked the term. It basically means the wine has undergone longer aging on lees than the regular Grande Annee and there will be slight variations between different disgorgements. The 2008 Bollinger RD is a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay, with 18 Crus mostly, Aÿ and Verzenay for Pinot Noir and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant for Chardonnay. With only 3g/l dosage, it is one of the driest RDs we have tried.

Smells

A magnificent bouquet of quince, bush honey, fresh baked bread and stonefruits.

Tastes

Rich and full-bodied with layers of lees-driven nutty flavours over a detailed palate of apple, summer plums, lemon and brioche, finishing creamy and mineral. A serious special occasion Champagne to enjoy with black truffle risotto between now and 2035
