Description

Kumeu River have become famous for making wines that threaten the greats of Burgundy - though you wouldn't have thought a Cremant de Bourgogne was under threat too! Behind the scenes, Michael Brajkovich MW has been working on a new use for his Pinot Noir vines, this first ever Cremant d'Kumeu a blend of 40 Pinot and 60 Chardonnay. The base vintage is 2011 and the wine spends 30 months on lees in bottle (en tirage) before being disgorged by hand and dosaged with a liqueur d'expedition based on their famously outstanding Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay 2006 (which serves the same role as Reserve wine). Bottled under crown seal to preserve freshness.

Smells

A complex and intriguing style, the nose is noticeably flinty and oxidative, with apple, white peach and earth.

Tastes

Full bodied and quite rounded, with excellent Chardonnay appeal and a creamy, nougat finish, this is a striking first release by Kumeu River. With future bottlings aging in the cellar at the moment, Kumeu fans will have one more great wine to order every year!

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
