Description
Bukkuram Sole D'Agosto is a distinctive sweet wine made from Zibibbo grapes (Muscat of Alexandria) grown in the unique terroir of Pantelleria, an island between Sicily and Tunisia. The name "Bukkuram," derived from Arabic meaning “father of the vineyard,” reflects the historical significance of this region, once highly prized by ancient Arab settlers for viticulture. The winemaking process is intricate. It involves harvesting half of the grapes in mid-August to begin a sun-drying process lasting about two weeks. This traditional method helps concentrate the sugars. The remaining grapes are left to mature on the vines until September, developing further complexity. After fermentation with wild yeasts, the base wine is macerated for about three months with the sun-dried grapes. This infusion contributes intense sugar and aroma to the wine. Following maceration, the wine undergoes a short maturation in oak barrels for six months, which adds depth and subtle oak flavours, before aging further in stainless steel tanks. The result is a rich, complex wine with concentrated flavours, ideal for pairing with pastries, fruit-based desserts, or enjoyed on its own as a post-dinner indulgence.
Smells
The nose combines candied zest of lemons, oranges and mandarins with notes of candied ginger, pineapple and dried fruits.
Tastes
On the palate, despite its concentration, the fruit presents itself with a lot of freshness, with a persistent and delicately floral finish. A wonderful experience and a must try, this is a gem not to be missed. Great enjoyed by itself or serve with cheese. The recommended serving temperature is 7-10 degrees.
