Description
Sauternes is famous for sweet wines, made mostly from Semillon grapes and a small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc. You know it will be great when the region's main focus is to make sweet wines, which is a hard sell in this day and age. Best to stay with the best, and Sauternes are it, lusciously sweet wines, barrel fermented and ages with richness, class and intrigue.
Smells
aromas of honey, toffee apples, mango, toasted sourdough with butter and Manuka honey finishing with a toasty, oak nuance.
Tastes
the palate is very rich, with lots of toffee apple, apricot and mango flavours. Luscious and intense but the toasty oak gives a salivating, almost cleansing finish. Serve with blue cheese and the match will be heavenly.
