Description

The classic American “Whiskey Jar” styled bottle is in keeping with the Heritage of 1924 wines borne out of America’s “Prohibition” days. Plus this powerful, rich, flavoursome red was aged in old Whiskey barrels. It’s not hard to imagine pouring this big, smooth red to your friends around the BBQ whilst sneaking a morsel or two off the hot plate/grill. It’s wide Whiskey Jar base perfect for outside conditions to avoid spillage of this delicious Californian red. With flavours of black fruits, dark chocolate, Golden Caramel, toasty oak and subtle spice… you’ll have to monitor how fast you’re drinking, it’s easy to get a head of yourself with this red.

Smells

A heady perfume of coconut rough, black plum, juicy raspberry, wood smoke, dark chocolate, subtle Maple syrup and a roasted almond twist.

Tastes

A luxurious, powerful red blend for lovers of big bold wines… it finishes with a degree of restraint. It delivers a dense plush core of black fruits with hints of raisin, espresso coffee, dark chocolate, baking spice and toasty vanilla oak. Moderately soft tannins surround the luxurious fruit, completing the picture. Great drinking now through 2026 - perfect with BBQed foods.

I decanted it for approx. 4 hrs and together with a restaurant owner and friends this is what we thought... 1. Bouquet - slight smell of whisky touched with a soft sweetness - pleasant on the nose 2. Body - light on front palate, more full on the middle palate 3. Finish - interesting & different, mouth filling with again a slight taste of whisky and fruity sweetness and a touch of oak 4. Flavour intensity - medium 5. Fruit - rich, blackberry more than raspberry and a touch of golden or maple syrup providing that subtle sweetness I have not really experienced this taste before and my comments' were also echoed by friends, I think I will need to try it again and savour the whole bottle by myself.
