Chateau de Pez had wide recognition amongst its peers, especially for great vintages like 1964, however when it became part of the Roederer Collection, Chateau de Pez was put on the world map. Work in the vineyard and replanting on a plot-by-plot basis has ensured a new balance of Merlot to Cabernet. The winery was also rebuilt with new specific stainless-steel cone-shaped fermenters, aiding the expression of terroir. This restructuring began in 2005 and today the results are evident. Saint-Estephe is the coolest appellation on the Left Bank but in warm vintages like 2020, it sings.

For a cooler region, there are few herbal descriptives, rather savoury, earthy notes indicative of a few years of bottle age. The fine-grain tannins cling to the insides of your cheeks and do not surrender, not drying but rather adding structure and durability to the wine. The tannin/acid combination resonates with Cabernet combined with the long, chiseled finish; all make for a stunning wine that needs time. Given 10 years in a temperature-controlled cellar and the results will be magical.
