Description

Although in 2022 there were many hot, hot days consecutively it seems the wines still have varietal typicity, are not baked and have freshness, that few can explain. What a treat – 2022 might be the year to stock up the cellar with more entry level Bordeaux reds, as they offer a bargain. This Gold Medal & James Suckling 91/100 rated Bordeaux Left Bank Merlot Cabernet blend from the 2022 vintage wowed our tasting panel to a 94/100. It is a superb indicator of the future enjoyment Bordeaux red drinkers are in for as the 2022 vintage wines roll out more widely from the Chateaux. One of the oldest Chateau in Bordeaux, originating in 1366, Chateau Timberlay produces estate grown Bordeaux wines with an ecological and terroir driven philosophy. They combine tradition and authenticity with an approach that makes quality Bordeaux accessible. The Chateau Timberlay estate is farmed under the ecologically friendly guidelines of Terra Vitis. This includes practices such as “jachere” in which vineyard plots are planted with annual flowers to invigorate and enhance the soil’s organic structure and attract good predators. Beehives enhance the practice, helping to pollinate the flowers and encouraging a thriving, diverse ecosystem. Grasses are grown between the vines, eliminating the need for chemical herbicides and stimulating deep rooting and healthy soils.

Smells

A perfumed delight that resonates of a special vintage, aromas of ripe blackcurrants and berries with baked earth, cedar and bramble.

Tastes

The word on the grape vine is that 2022 is a stellar vintage… one sip of this Bordeaux Superieur and you will believe all they are saying. The aromas are mirrored on the palate… a wonderful combination of dark, ripe berries, fine cedary oak plus classic savoury and dried herb complexities. Chewy tannins surround the bold fruit forming a perfect frame. Drinking well from 2027 through 2030+. And for the price this is an absolute bargain. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
