Due to very slow restaurant, fine wine & Island tourism markets... Fine Wine Delivery are exclusively CLEARING Obsidian’s Flagship “Obsidian” Red at an astonishing $39.99 bottle. 96/100 Bob Campbell MW & 97/100 FWD... this is Obsidian’s pinnacle red crafted with handpicked fruit from the near drought like, perfect 2019 vintage. A classic “Left Bank Bordeaux” styled red comprising 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 17% Petit Verdot & 3% Malbec. Each of the grape varieties were picked at optimal ripeness and fermented separately in 1 tonne & 2 tonne open top fermenters, with twice daily plunging. After a period of post fermentation maceration, the wine was pressed and transferred to fine French barriques (50% new) and underwent malolactic fermentation. After a few months in barrel it was racked, clarified and the final blend made, before returning to barrel to complete aging. No expense spared in the making of this impressive Flagship Obsidian Red. This is an opulent, powerful & complex wine that will reward cellaring through 2035 if well stored… now 5-years old it is beginning to reveal its exciting potential.
Smells
Commanding black fruit aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and boysenberry, layered with subtle notes of cedar, dried herbs and spice.
Tastes
Full-bodied and concentrated, it parades over your palate unravelling with flavours of ripe blackberries, blackcurrant, plum and cherries layered with dried herbs and spices. Cedar & woodsmoke oak plus subtle savoury notes round out a complex, gratifying experience bound by and transported in fine velvety tannin and harmonious acids. Outstanding with roast meats, charcoaled duck breast and quality aged cheddars. Enjoy anytime from now through 2035… take the time to decant for 30-minutes before enjoying.
