I say “Staggering” because it is a well-crafted Reserve Red that will drink well through the next 3-5 years… giving you a high-level of satisfaction you won’t find normally in sub $20 reds. In fact, this 2021 Cab/Merlot is a stonker, and its deep colour is an immediate pointer to the fullness of flavour that will knock your socks off at this price. Extended skin maceration, premium French Oak (15% new) for at least 10 months it has power and structure to boot. A wine to be enjoyed with hearty food over the next 5-8 years. You cannot have too much of this stonker… you’ll drink super quality at an everyday price! Get your friends & family to buy up so you can drink well if they bring it to your place!
Smells
Aromas of blackberry, mulberry, plum, wild forest berries, dark chocolate with fruit cake and subtle dried flowers… lots going on here.
Tastes
Deeply coloured, it’s an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot from Scared Hill’s best vineyard sites in the Hawke's Bay. A delicious, plush palate of blackberry, plum, coffee bean, subtle dried herbs and oak spice. Dark chocolate and savoury hints present on the finish, it’s a smooth luscious transition from go to a nicely long whoa. It's packed with fruit and carries a punch… given a few years, it will be mind-blowing for the price. Well worth a 30-minute decant prior to serving. Enjoy with roast lamb, beef or venison.
