Description
Saint Clair are synonymous with quality and at a price that will appease. This 2021 Pioneer Block demonstrates this to a Tee. The outstanding fruit was sourced predominately from a single vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, Hawke’s Bay. The vigour moderating, free-draining gravels provides a superb base for growing Cab, and Merlot. A blend of 62% Cab Sav, and 38% Merlot. Each variety was fermented separately and after hours of deliberation, the perfect blend was found.
Smells
warm, heady aromas of dark berry fruit, blackcurrant leaf, coffee grinds, dark chocolate interwoven with cassis and cedar.
Tastes
abundant fruit greets the palate giving way to the classical chalky, dusty tannins typical of Cabernet yet balanced by the opulent Merlot fruit. Cedar, fresh tobacco leaves, blackcurrants flavours with toasty nuances give harmony and balance. A wine highlighting the virtues of the Hawkes Bay and these grape varieties, especially when made under the careful hands of the team at Saint Clair. Drinking well now through 2026 and serve with your favourite cut of red meat. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
