Few people know that Te Mata Estate only take the top 1/3 of their vineyards for their own wine production, while selling the rest to other producers. Any wonder even their entry level wines are such incredibly good value?
Smells
Heady bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, cedar, espresso, and vanilla.
Tastes
Lovely generosity of ripe, sweet fruit that calls to mind the word - purity. Subtle cedary oak tannins frame the finish, giving hints of mocha, berries, and cassis. A wine with serious structure, concentrated fruit and from the incredible 20120 vintage. For an entry level wine, this offers excellent value and even ageing potential for the next 4-5 years. If you cannot resist, decant an hour prior to serving. Made for a prime cut of beef.
