Description
The 2019 vintage in Hawke’s Bay has been heralded as one of the finest of the century, and the Alpha Domus Aviator showcases this exceptional year in stunning form. A meticulously crafted Bordeaux blend, it delivers complexity and structure with layers of dark fruit, cedar, and an enticing savoury, leathery thread that offers immediate charm. At five years old, the wine is beginning to reveal its full character, making it a delight to drink now. However, patience will be richly rewarded, as this vintage promises to evolve beautifully over the next 5–15 years, offering phenomenal depth and elegance with further bottle age. Alpha Domus’ decision to release this stellar vintage with a few years of aging already under its belt is a thoughtful gesture, allowing wine enthusiasts to enjoy it at an early peak while also offering the potential for long-term cellaring. A true treasure of Hawke's Bay and a must-have for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
Smells
Beautifully pure florals - violet, roses, and tobacco - with dark fruit notes of plum, cassis, leather and dark chocolate. Everything in place and accounted for...all that's left is to let time do its work...
Tastes
Pristine fruit, with lovely plummy notes, fine-grained tannins and a steely graphite focus that betrays the perfect vintage conditions. Wonderful as a young wine, it's still very tight knit, so ideally give this sometime in the cellar or otherwise, a ship's decanter for a few hours. Outstanding wine to enjoy between now and 2030 and beyond. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
