Description

Just the second vintage, the Prison Block Cabernet Sauvignon gets its name from a three-quarter-hectare section in our “Gimblett Stones” vineyard behind Roys Hill originally earmarked for the Hawke’s Bay Regional Correctional Facility. The grapes were hand-picked and completely destemmed before fermentation. Elevage was completed in 225L new French oak barriques for 18 months. The vines are all Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon, which produce tiny berries with intense colour, concentrated flavours, ripe tannins and balanced acidity; all the hallmarks necessary to produce a wine worthy of a single vineyard release.

Smells

Powerfully concentrated aromas of cassis, blackberries, boysenberry, violets, leather, cigar box, dried herbs and spicy oak complexities.

Tastes

Rich and powerful, but drinking very well now due to wonderfully silky smooth tannins. The palate overflows with ripe dark berries, plums, chocolate and toasted spice. The fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity ensure a textural and fresh palate, leading into a lengthy finish.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
