Description

Trinity Hill The Gimblett has an enviable record of quality & recognition! It’s place in Hawke’s Bay & NZ red wine history will continue to rise on the back of this sensational 2021 (fabulous, beautifully structured vintage) release. 96/100 & Double Gold at Decanter World Wine Awards... the judges’ comments - “Mouthwatering notes of ripe raspberry, roasted plum and coffee with a savoury, herbaceous edge; firm and robust with a cleansing acidity and an impressively long finish.” Add 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, 96/100 FWD Tasting Panel, Champion Trophy & Gold for “Best in Class” Aotearoa Regional Wine Awards, plus Gold Medal Hawke’s Bay A & P Bayleys Wine Awards. A masterful, complex blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Tempranillo, 8% Cabernet Franc & 6% Petit Verdot. This superb 2021 vintage was crafted using traditional winemaking techniques and fine French oak. It has beautiful aromatics and is a silky, complex, full-bodied red with an excellent structure promising graceful development over many years. It sits alongside many of the more expensive Hawke's Bay reds for quality & sophistication yet remains incredibly affordable… it is one of the great Kiwi Cellar bargains. Accessible in its youth, it’s an opulent red with structure to burn, hinting in no uncertain terms that it will be at its best between 2027 to 2033+.

Smells

Opulent aromas of cassis, blackberry, black plum, subtle dried herbs, fine cedary oak, tobacco leaf and violets.

Tastes

Beautifully structured with gorgeous detail across its abundantly fruited palate. The opulent black fruits & cassis are layered with savoury herb, spice, coffee and fine cedary oak complexities building to a long, powerful finish perfectly freshened by cleansing juicy acidity. Surreal value for money, Trinity Hill The Gimblett should be in every NZ wine lover's cellar. Enjoy with quality red meats & aged cheddar.

Really dark, black fruits are very evident as this wine hits the glass. Spicy, classic Gimblett Gravels flavours. This wine is fab now but would benefit for several more years in my cellar. However, I don't like its chances!
