Description

No expense is spared in the making of the Elephant Hill Reserve wines, this Merlot dominant Right Bank Bordeaux styled blend spent 26 months in 35% new French oak. 2018 was a great year and it really shows in this 4 x 5 Star wine, a majestic expression with a richness and a velvety structure standing it apart from many Hawke's Bay reds. Now 6-years old it will drink beautifully through 2030 if well stored.

Smells

Intensely fragrant aromas of blackberries, cassis, plums, graphite, spices and new leather.

Tastes

Big, rich and densely flavoured, the palate is laden with dark fruit, blackberries and black cherries prominent, while chocolate and spice oak notes add to its complexity and charm. The tannins are succulent and grainy, playing a supporting role to the seductive fruit. Enjoy now with a decant; store well and it should hold nicely to 2030.

Beginning to show signs of its maturity in its colour, this is a lovely winter fireside wine. Wonderful cassis blended with leather and black fruits, this delightful rich and warming wine has plenty going on in the glass. Will be great with lamb or steak, or just share it with a friend.
