Description

Obsidian are one of Waiheke’s prestige producers with vines planted in Onetangi, the area that many consider the Island's Grand Cru. FWD have been CLEARING surplus cellar stocks for Obsidian Wines that would normally be sold through fine restaurants & winery cellar door. Restaurants & Island Tourism sales have both been hit hard. This Prestige Methode Traditionnelle from the 2017 vintages was aged 4-years on lees in bottle… much longer than the big brand Champagnes you’ll find discounted in the Supermarkets. 4-years lees aged Methodes & Champagnes are expensive and rightly so. GOOGLE the winery and see what the normal price for this prestige bubbles is. Made from black grapes (Merlot & Cabernet Franc) – in Champagne it would be called a Blanc de Noir (white from black). Hand-picked fruit is cool fermented to preserve aromatics and purity. It underwent secondary fermentation in bottle and was aged 4-years on lees in bottle. The long time on lees created superior body, enabling it to be made in a refined drier style. This is Premium Methode Traditionnelle with a Champagne like palate. Perfect pre dinner enjoyment, it has the depth and style to pair nicely with summer salads and fresh seafoods.

Smells

Enticing aromas of citrus and peach, with toasted almonds and freshly baked bread.

Tastes

The palate is generous & inviting, loaded with stone fruit, lemon zest and , bready lees aging characters. Juicy acidity and a lively mousse embrace its generous and complex flavours, as it wends its way to a long, leisurely, delicious finish. High quality vintage Methode drinking superbly now through 2026, serve well chilled in quality flutes.
