Description
Alan Limmer really put the Gimblett Gravels on the map, his Stonecroft vineyard containing some of the oldest vines in the region. When Alan retired, he passed the torch to Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin. The pair have grasped the mantle with both hands, consistently maintaining the high standards achieved by Alan and now adding their own stamp to the brand. Ruhanui, a Cabernet (85%) and Merlot (15%) blend from the Roy’s Hill vineyard offers excellent value for money, showcasing the Gimblett Gravels and the great Bordeaux blend style of wines coming from this area.
Smells
dark fruit aromas, plum, rhubarb and blackcurrant with cinnamon giving way to cedar, bramble, and subtle vanilla notes.
Tastes
a plump, juicy expression with suave tannins supporting the generous fruit, giving structure and ageability. Those same dark fruit flavours persist on the palate with notes of cigar box, wild berry fruits, a touch of leather and spice. A cellaring potential of 7-10 years if stored in temperature-controlled conditions, or if you cannot wait, decant just prior to serving.
