Description
A case of Old World meets New World, a joint venture between Australian winemaker Nerida Abbott and Laurent Delaunay from Burgundy. Won over by the diversity of terroirs of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, they have worked relentlessly to produce the finest examples this region has to offer. Les Fleurs Sauvages (translates to wildflowers) is made from Mourvedre grapes from selected parcels in Pays d’Oc, South of France.
Smells
a slightly restrained nose that needs swirling to coach out the bouquet, breathe deeply and you can see red and black liquorice, black plums, green coffee beans, wild raspberries with cedar and brown spices.
Tastes
This is truly a New World/Old world wine in the glass. Initially, there is plump, juicy fruit with dark and red fruit flavours and charming toasty vanilla hints. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of illusion that this is not a big wine because then the robust tannins cling to your inner cheeks and don’t let go. It needs time in the cellar 8-12 years but don’t worry it has the fruit concentration to allow ageing. With time it will be the perfect match with roasted red meats. Or if you cannot resist, decant an hour before serving. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
