Description
Discovering a new Italian grape variety every day is entirely possible, and Susumaniello is a perfect example. This little-known red grape from Puglia, southern Italy, is grown almost exclusively in the Salice Salento area and a few vineyards around Brindisi. It ranks among the world's rarest grape variety. Susumaniello is experiencing a surge in popularity in the early 21st century, thanks to the renewed interest in obscure Italian grape varieties. Susumaniello grapes are used to make both red and rosé wines – sometimes vinified alone but more often blended with Negroamaro. This Boccantino Susumaniello gives you the opportunity to taste one of the rarest grape varieties in the world, and with its modest price tag, there is nothing to lose.
Smells
typical aromas of red berries and plums, with hints of liquorice, pepper and spice.
Tastes
the palate is rich and concentrated with white and black pepper and spice flavours and with sprinklings of dark chocolate. Rich, ripe and smooth, characteristic of the warm climate region of Puglia, but balanced by silky smooth tannins, bringing harmony and supreme drinkability. Serve with beef stew or BBQed ribs. For optimal drinking pleasure the recommended serving temperature is 15-17 degrees.
