Description
Known to the Aussie locals as Durif, the far less euphonious name gets the boot in favour of Petite Sirah. This Caravan wine from John Quarisa is anything but petite though, an intensely fruited wine with lots of toasty oak, dark chocolate and Christmas cake-like fruit richness. Incredibly concentrated and opulent, cuddly Red that makes you feel warm and content. Perfect for curling up next to a roaring fire when the Southerly is blowing… or talking nonsense around the BBQ - uncomplicated and gluggable.
Smells
An aromatic medley of vanilla and toasty oak with liquorice, blackcurrant, plum duff, chocolate and Christmas cake.
Tastes
Lusciously and sweetly dark fruited, with warming alcohol powering through the long, rich palate carried in a fine bed of grainy tannins. A big, cuddly, lovely rich red with incredible concentration for the money. Great buying for when want a big, satisfying glass of red. Drink young between now and 2026 with your favourite roasted red meats. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
