Description
Old-Vine GSM Red of extraordinary quality v price! If there are superior value/quality red wines in the world than the Castaño's Hécula range, they would be few – Castaño are a producer in DO Yecla, Murcia, Spain. Harvested from Old-Vines grown on stoney, sandy and limestone soils at 750m altitude… a combination of DRY grown bush and trellis vines. A blend of 50% Garnacha, 25% Syrah and 25% Monastrell (Mourvèdre in our world). The highly concentrated low yield fruit is aged for 4 months in 80% French oak – with 20% American oak barrels in the mix to add more complexity and lift to this luscious Red.
Smells
Aromas of baked strawberries, black plums, red liquorice, sandalwood and red earth with a spice lift.
Tastes
This delivers everything you want and expect from a GSM! Plush red fruit from the Garnacha… plum, liquorice, spice and acidity from the Syrah… a dark, meaty brooding presence from the Monastrell, plus a touch of dark chocolate to round it out. The perfect combination of luscious fruit and chewy tannins with a powerful, balanced finish. 100% the perfect BBQ wine and astounding value… drinking well now through 2027.
