Description
If you're seeking a standout Côtes du Rhône that punches well above its price point, Coudoulet de Beaucastel is an absolute must-try. Often referred to as "baby Beaucastel," this exceptional wine is crafted from 30 hectares of vineyards situated just east of Château de Beaucastel, across the A7 motorway. The terroir at Coudoulet mirrors that of Beaucastel, featuring molasse seabed soils topped with alpine diluvial deposits. The signature galets roulés—rounded stones—play a crucial role by absorbing heat during the day and radiating it at night, giving the vines an early start in spring and promoting optimal ripening. The blend is a classic Rhône combination: 40% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault, resulting in a wine with depth, complexity, and balance. With its remarkable quality and affordability, Coudoulet de Beaucastel is a perfect introduction to the iconic Rhône Valley style.
Smells
a hedonistic delight of aromas of black cherries, sunbaked stones, roast fennel and spice.
Tastes
the palate gathers momentum with flavours of red and black berries, dark chocolate, leading into a black liquorice infusion on the medium to full-bodied palate. It is luscious, velvety, and has a fine, complex long finish. Drinking well now through 2028 and will match with BBQ meats, hard cheese or stews. The recommended temperature is 15-17 degrees.
