Description
Tempranillo is something of a rarity in New Zealand, although by tasting a couple of the best ones, you'd wonder why... this Hans Herzog Tempranillo is a masterpiece, a wine of character, concentration, and charm. Dark and brooding, velvety with a hint of pepper and dark chocolate, the tannins and structure remind one of good Right Bank Bordeaux. Like all Herzog wines, it is made with absolute care and disregard for financial profit... It ages majestically too, so don't be afraid to throw some into the cellar for drinking after 2027.
Smells
a delightful perfume of cinnamon quills, forest floor, cedar, wild red berries with hints of leather and spice.
Tastes
A delicious drinking red wine showing savoury development due to several years bottle age but in a super manner. There is an integration of fruit, oak, and tannins in line with a more mature wine satisfying each and every taste bud to the nth degree. The earthy, forest floor and sandalwood flavours are smooth and seamless as is the palate structure. Wonderful drinking now through 2024, with roast lamb or beef.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
