Description

2020 Pago Ayles 'Single Pago' Cuesta Del Herrero scored a Massive 97/100 + Platinum + Best in Show at Decanter World Wine Awards in 2022. Our Fine Wine Delivery ‘Buying Team’ were quick to move and secured a 2,400-bottle shipment exclusive to our customers in NZ. We’ve secured just 674 bottles of this 94-94-94-96/100 rated 2022 vintage, not quite a Decanter Best in Show like the 2020… but a fabulous quality v price Spanish Red bursting with concentration, class & character. If you have ever wanted to taste and understand what the hype is all about with top-quality Spanish wines, Pago Ayles is the place to start, especially at its seriously ‘BARGAIN’ price! A unique blend of 50% Tempranillo, 30% Garnacha (Grenache in French), 12% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, from organically grown grapes off their low yielding old-vine home vineyards. Aged in a mix of French & American oak, the concentration, complexity, power and pleasure are remarkable for the price. It has been referred to as a “Super-Aroganese” – a take-off the famous “Super Tuscan” Bordeaux grape inspired reds from Bolgheri in Italy. An appropriate reference in terms of quality, however, it is a fraction of the price of those Italian gems. Make sure you grab your requirements from our limited 674 bottle shipment and enjoy now through 2028-30.

Smells

A heady perfume of baked blackberries, black cherry, and plum fruits waft from the glass with an array of dried herbs, cured meat and Asian spice.

Tastes

Haunting depth of flavour tinged with power… concentrated fruit within a finely structured body, and a juicy interplay from the crystalline acid thread. Masses of Dark berry & plus fruit flavours abound with baked earth, savoury cured meat and exotic Asian spice complexities adding to the mix. The combination of indigenous Spanish grape varieties with a seasoning of Bordeaux favourites brings complexity and subtle contrast to the initial aromatic sweetness. Simply irresistible, best decanted prior to serving and will cellar well for 5-7years+. Serve with succulent cuts of beef. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
