Description
For many New Zealanders, this was the first Spanish wine they tried back in the 1980s. The wine has come on a lot since then, but the idiosyncratic little plastic bull on the bottle remains. Torres Sangre de Toro is a great value red wine that offers a reliably excellent glass of wine in a juicy, easy-drinking style. The name Sangre de Toro (blood of the bull) is meant to be a homage to Bacchus, a Roman God of wine known also as ‘The son of the Bull’.
Smells
Juicy berry fruits spring from the glass; strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, with sweet cedar and spice nuances.
Tastes
Generous, rounded fruit initially is supported by chewy, mouth coating tannins that give structure and drinkability. The juicy red fruit flavours are nicely complimented by the earthy, savoury complexity. Perfect with BBQ meats. Good drinking now.
