Description

Most often a classic GSM blend (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) that we Kiwis have a love affair with. Most CDR are north of $20/bottle, some as high as $45. So, when we discovered Victor Berard selling for under $20... we flew samples from the Rhone to see if it was any good. More than good, it proved to be classic Rhone, generously flavoured with a sustained, very moreish finish. Generous fruit thanks to the Grenache 60%, yet superbly structured due to 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre & Cinsault. One sip and you’ll be excited about the price. It will delight around the BBQ, at the beach, summer picnics, and anytime through 2024-2027.

Smells

Aromas of strawberry, wild raspberries, kirsch, hints of forest floor, bramble, and spice.

Tastes

A robust well-structured CDR with a core of juicy red and black fruit balanced by chewy gravelly tannins. A complete Ying/yang of fruit to tannin, making this wine more serious, and for the price tag, a buy that really warrants a case purchase. Drinking well now through 2027 with all red meats, cheese and pasta.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
