Description

Among NZ’s finest, most enduring quality and globally famous Pinot Noir, certainly if history is closely looked at… an argument we’d support. Ata Rangi have been doing NZ Pinot Noir at a consistently world class level for longer than anyone. An incredibly high achieving wine since the early 1980s, they’ve had a dream run even by their lofty standards with six of the finest vintages ever in succession. A fraction of the price of like quality Premier & Grand Cru Burgundy. Under screwcap and in quality storage conditions… you could expect it to age gracefully through 15-20 years. Any Ata Rangi vintage should be part of any NZ Pinot Noir aficionado’s collection.

Smells

Incredibly complex with fragrant red and black fruits, rosehip and cranberry, an herbal infusion, thyme, plus a touch of cedar.

Tastes

Immensely concentrated and still very densely knitted at this early stage, one can get a glimpse into the future of this embryonic star. Deep, dark flavours of cherries, spices, and dried herbs, yet there is vibrancy, poise, and sophistication, not often seen in younger Pinots. Give this at least until 2027 to open (or decant for an hour or more), but ideally drink from 2028-2036 to enjoy it for the masterpiece it will become. A legend in the making.
