Description
Forager may be relatively unknown to FWD Co customers, but the man behind the wine isn’t… Forager is Dom Maxwell’s (winemaker at Greystone and New Zealand Winemaker of the Year 2018) own project and this 2020 release marks his ninth rendition. This Pinot Noir has the same philosophy as the Greystone Vineyard Ferment – handpicked and sorted Pinot Noir fruit being returned to the exact some blocks where they were picked, here they undergo 100% spontaneous fermentation – giving true representation of terroir. A total of 3950 bottles made, making it a rare find indeed. The wine spent 15 months in oak prior to bottling. This wine is impressively powerful upon release but promises aging potentials for 5-10 years.
Smells
Burgundian in style with dense dark red fruit, very subtle spice, and wild herb notes.
Tastes
Powerful with brooding energy, layers of blackberry-fruit are overlaid with plum, cassis oak spice and dried thyme. Great structure with very fine tannins promising great aging and longevity lies ahead. A wine to cellared for 5years minimum, then to be pulled out and enjoyed with a fine home cooked meal.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
