Description
Putting your nose in the Gibbston Valley GV Pinot Noir 2022 is like taking yourself on an instant winter skiing holiday to Queenstown. The aromatics take you straight to a schist fireplace, with logs crackling and your woodfired pizza just about to hit the table. The original player in the Gibbston Valley continues to be among the benchmarks, a deep and brooding style of Pinot Noir with lots of subtle cured meat and herb notes, all set against a background of chocolatey oak and tart black cherry. An iron fist in a velvet glove, this wine manages to be equal parts poise, grace, and strength. A lovely wine now, it'll be better in 3 to 5 years.
Smells
Hints of wild thyme, cured meat, black cherry and cedary oak.
Tastes
Juicy and fleshy in the mouth, with wooded brambly notes set against fresh summer cherries and an assertive structure. A very strong release from Gibbston Valley that will reward patience (as well as impetuousness). Drink now to 2029 with duck and pork dishes. For optimal drinking pleasure the recommended serving temperature is 13-14 degrees.
