Description
A small production Pinot from Waipara maestros Greystone, the Thomas Brothers celebrates the family behind Greystone and the vineyards themselves. From the highest altitude, north-facing slopes, the wine is clearly made in a style that demands cellaring, though the richness of the wine and sweet, dark fruit make it deceptively accessible in its youth. Make no mistake though, the serious structure and drawn out elevage all point to this wine's best years being a fair way off yet, so those with the patience to cellar 6 or a dozen bottles will get to observe a thrilling evolution.
Smells
A complex and tightly wound bouquet of dark fruits, exotic spices, nutty French oak, liquorice and wild florals.
Tastes
Shockingly concentrated and very weighty, the wine is quite brooding at this early stage, so those giving into Bacchus would be wise to give it a couple of hours in a decanter first. Expect this wine to be long-lived, matching perfectly with venison and game birds through to 2035, give or take.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
