Description
This wine is a collaboration between Prophet’s Rock winemaker Paul Pujol and esteemed French winemaker François Millet from Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy. Former winemaker at Comte George de Vogüé for 35 vintages, François continues to make wine in Burgundy with his family under ‘François Millet et Fils’ and with us in New Zealand. Since the first release in 2015, this wine has been sourced exclusively from the same parcel on their small Home Vineyard site up in the hills of Bendigo sub-region, Central Otago. The Master of Burgundy partnered with one of NZ and Otago’s finest exponents of Pinot Noir in a world class, highly coveted, very restricted, incredibly hard to get your hands on cellar prize. Grand Cru Old World Pinot Noir from finest New World fruit. Like getting your hands on NZ’s version of Grand Cru Chambolle-Musigny. Age worthy for 15-20 years if well stored… but outstanding now paired with a great food match. Oh, for the record, the 2016 was named one of the “25 wines to try before you die, as picked by London’s most influential drinkers” by the Evening Standard. We couldn’t agree more!
Smells
A sensational bouquet that shows integration, precision, and pristine fruit, red cherries, rose petals, exotic spice with a wonderful herbal layering suggestive of crushed thyme, rosemary, and lavender.
Tastes
A wine in its youth right now and with time in the bottle this wine will evolve savoury complexity, taking to even further heights, if that is possible. A focused core of red berry fruits charges the length of the palate with textural tannins that coat your tongue, cheeks, roof of your mouth. The lingering length is compelling and it’s hard to stop there, as the descriptives just keep coming. Hide in a temperature-controlled cellar for 10years+ and reap the rewards.
