Description
In 1998, Kai Schubert and Marion Deimling finally settled in Martinborough after a global search for land to make great Pinot Noir. Over time, their finest plots revealed themselves and they named this one Marion’s Vineyard, a fittingly feminine and graceful wine made from two Pinot Noir clones, Pommard and Abel. Aged for around 18 months in oak, typically 1/3 new, the wine in 2021 is a masterpiece, showing off all the spicy, smoky, red fruited beauty of Martinborough.
Smells
Lovely smoky, cedary notes giving way to red cherry, roses, wild herbs, and an open fire.
Tastes
Juicy and welcoming up front with exotic eastern spices, dried woody herbs, and wood smoke, set against a core of berries, cinnamon, and cherry. Amply structured with robust yet finely grained tannins, with excellent concentration. A deep, dark, brooding Pinot Noir with much to say, it’s a statement and a whole lot more. This will benefit from 5 years in a temperature-controlled cellar and will continue to age 12years + from vintage. Imagine pan fried wild mushrooms and confit duck and a bottle of Marion’s Vineyard Pinot…. heaven.
