Description

Low yielding vines + quality oak – Thornbury Pinot Noir cost much more than its white wine brand contemporaries to make. It’s not able to be line priced and has historically been excluded from Thornbury brand promos as a result. Thornbury brand owners have decided to discontinue this Pinot Noir from the brand and are CLEARING it at an extraordinary $14.99 bottle. At full price… the quality of fruit & winemaking was unsustainable; the fruit will be redirected to a more expensively priced Pinot! 4-years old and drinking beautifully… make this your go to house Pinot Noir and red wine generally, you’ll be drinking very nicely thank you at a modest price! Marlborough, with its distinctive sub regional diversity provides many stunning expressions of Pinot Noir. This generational quality 2020 vintage Thornbury crafted from Southern Valleys fruit epitomising that. Dry, hot summers and cool nights engender low yielding vines, ideal for the development of intense flavour and tannin. A quality oak regime includes a judicious 10% new oak and 11-months in barrels, adding complexity and mouthfeel. Drinking superbly at 4-years with another 3-4 ahead of it.

Smells

Black and red cherry infused with violet, sandalwood, cardamom, and baking spices. Taste: Rich, full bodied palate with flavours of black and red cherry, baking spice, dried herb, and subtle savoury notes. The palate is soft and juicy with a silky velvety texture and fine tannins weaving their magic throughout. Enjoy with duck, venison – or roast lamb, now through 2026-28.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
