Description
Family owned, this is the fourth generation of the Piqueras family to have overseen the property since it was established in 1915 in Almansa, south-east Spain, some 60km from Alicante and the Mediterranean. Characterised by its low rainfall and poor, limestone soils which are organically farmed at 850-950m above sea level from vines over 30 years old. A 50/50 blend of Syrah and Monastrell offering a rustic, approachable style, that’s sub $20, a must try.
Smells
A brooding collection of dark fruits, exotic spices, fine espresso, dark chocolate and subtle cedary oak notes.
Tastes
Rich black fruits with a creamy texture, exotic spices, chocolate, espresso, and rich savouriness. The finish has succulent soft acids and deeply layered cocoa powder like tannins. With every sip this wine opens up, satisfying more and more. Perfect with cheese and cured meats or a hearty stew.
