Description

Craggy Range was founded with a vision to create a lasting legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997, he met Steve Smith, MW, and sensed an exciting potential. With New Zealand’s exceptional climate and passionate people, they aimed to produce wines that would become New World classics. Their strategy was simple: select the best land and plant vines perfectly suited to the soil and climate. The result is a state-of-the-art winery known for its uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship. Le Sol Syrah: Le Sol, meaning "the soil" in French, is crafted from the renowned Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay. This unique terroir features gravelly soils that retain heat in summer and insulate vines in winter. The Syrah vines, planted in the stoniest parts of the vineyard, are managed intensively by hand, yielding a deeply dark wine with purple hues.

Smells

a perfumed bouquet of red cherry, blackberry, red liquorice with nutty hints suggestive of toasted almonds, and even toasted walnuts.

Tastes

red fruit flavours dictate the palate, redcurrant and red cherry fruits, with white pepper, vanilla, toast and spice. There is a finesse, a chalky texture, with silky smooth tannins giving a flinty, chewy nature, all enhanced the overall complexity. The finish is long with persistent notes of fruit, and lingering oak char, all in harmony, allowing a long life in the bottle ahead. Enjoy this wine with roasted meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses. It is delightful now but will cellar for 10 years+. The recommended serving temperature is 15-17 degrees.
