Description

Crozes-Hermitage stands as the largest appellation in the Northern Rhône, spreading across 11 communes in the Drôme department. This region's diversity lies not only in its wines but also in its varied terroirs. In the north, the soils are dominated by granite subsoils, echoing the legendary Hermitage Hill, while the southern areas feature alluvial glacial terraces, adding complexity and distinction to the wines. The only red grape permitted in Crozes-Hermitage is Syrah, producing wines that often exude aromas of cured meats intertwined with dark fruits, spice, and a distinct savoury complexity. The diversity of soils contributes to a broad spectrum of styles, from lighter, fruit-forward expressions to more structured and robust offerings. Thanks to its relative affordability compared to neighbouring regions, Crozes-Hermitage has become a hotbed for young and ambitious winemakers, making it a region to watch. These wines consistently deliver excellent value for money, showcasing the true potential of Northern Rhône Syrah while remaining accessible to enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Smells

a deep, dark brooding bouquet with spicy, dark berries, white and black pepper with a vibrant energetic red fruit streak.

Tastes

a classic example of Crozes-Hermitage with a dense core of fruit, blackberries, mulberries with pepper, cinnamon, and spice flavours where the fruit is harnessed by suave, supple tannins. This wine has it all for drinking now, fruit weight, complexity, and a firm tannin spine, all in harmony. Drinking over the next 2-3 years. Serve with roast lamb, beef, or venison. The recommended serving temperature is 15-17 degrees.
