Description
It's not every day you get to try Hermitage, this is the Crème de la crème of the Northern Rhone. An appellation that commands extreme prices, but justifiably so, the best vineyard sites, grown with low cropping Syrah vines. Marsanne and Roussanne are also permittable varieties in Hermitage and are often co-fermented, adding complexity and structure. Grown on south-facing slopes with granite and alluvial soils on the famous hill overlooking the town of Tain. Aged in a combination of new and old French barrels.
Smells
a complex, engaging and powerful nose with blackberry, grilled meat, toasted nuts, smoke and hints of cedar, leather, spice, graphite, and iodine.
Tastes
a dynamic wine with a long life ahead, a medium to full-bodied, classic Hermitage. A wine showing great purity and a balance of robust, structural tannins and good acidity, with a straight yet focused texture. Dark fruit flavours, blackberries, boysenberries with liquorice, bramble and even a hint of tar, make for a wine layered with complexity. Given 15years+ in a temperature-controlled cellar and the results will be sublime. The recommended serving temperature is 15-17 degrees.
