Description
Everything about Guigal’s Ermitage Ex-Voto is extreme, made from 100% Syrah (most Hermitage is a co-fermentation of Syrah and white grapes), 42 months in 100% new French oak, from 40–90-year-old vines and at cropping levels of 35 HL/Ha, that is tiny and on par with Grand Cru from Burgundy. And the results are nothing less than sublime, oh and Ex-Voto is only made in exceptional vintages and in minuscule quantities. Count yourself lucky if you get even one bottle.
Smells
aromas of black fruits, black liquorice, brilliant cassis, coffee beans with hints of leather and Asian spice.
Tastes
There is power in the attack, with fabulous, concentrated fruit that manages to portray a sense of lightness at the same time. The oak is seamlessly integrated and hard to imagine it was in 100% new oak for so long. The tannins are harmonious, giving a silky-smooth structure. A wine that speaks of its terroir, strong yet with finesse. The finish is long and mouth-watering. One for the cellar.
