Description
When Jim Barry first set foot on Lodge Hill, he knew it would grow into a very special vineyard and it has. Famous these days for its Single Vineyard Riesling and this Lodge Hill Shiraz, which has won a room full of Champion Trophies & Gold Medals over many years. This 2021 was judged ‘Champion Shiraz’ & ‘Champion Wine of Show’ at Clare Valley’s Annual Wine Show… we all know how many wine legends and premium/prestige wines are produced in this famous Australian appellation… Lodge Hill cleaned up the lot! The Lodge Hill Shiraz vineyard, on the Clare Valley’s eastern ranges, has soils of rich, chocolatey loam over almost vertical sheets of rock. The cracks between the rock have filled with soil, providing passage for the vine roots and free drainage - the ideal environment for low-yielding Shiraz vines. This 2021 is delicious drinking today and outstandingly accessible quality… equally it will do 10-years in the cellar with ease if respectfully stored.
Smells
Instantly engaging aromas of red and black cherries, plum with clove and vanilla spice, florals, anise, chocolate, and subtle herbs.
Tastes
The palate is bursting with black fruits infused with sweet and savoury spices, liquorice, dark chocolate and alluring, subtle dried herb complexities. Embraced by smooth, finely gripping tannins, the sweet spice and black berry flavours are deliciously buoyed on the finish by soft juicy acids. Seriously gluggable now… but continue to enjoy with savoury and lightly spiced meats and pizza dishes, or just great BBQ foods… now through 2029+.
