Description
When Jim Barry planted his first Shiraz vines on Lodge Hill land, he was convinced it would become a very special vineyard. Now famous for its Single Vineyard Shiraz… Lodge Hill has won an almost unfair volume of Champion Trophies & Gold Medals over many years. This 2022 has just been released, and already has 4 Gold Medals to its name, but watch this space as we are sure it will gain even greater accolades. Lodge Hill Vineyard is situated on the Clare Valley’s eastern ranges and has soils of rich, chocolatey loam over almost vertical sheets of rock. The cracks between the rock have filled with soil, providing passage for the vine roots and free drainage - the ideal environment for low-yielding Shiraz vines. This 2022 is delicious drinking now, super accessible quality… equally it will do 10-years in the cellar with ease if respectfully stored.
Smells
Instantly engaging aromas of red and black berries, plum, clove, vanilla spice, florals, anise, chocolate, and subtle herbs.
Tastes
The palate is bursting with predominantly black fruits infused with sweet and savoury spices, liquorice, dark chocolate and alluring, subtle dried herb complexities. Embraced by smooth, finely gripping tannins, the sweet spice and dark berry flavours are deliciously buoyed on the finish by soft juicy acids. Seriously gluggable now… but continue to enjoy with savoury and lightly spiced meats, pizza dishes, or just great BBQ foods… now through 2030+.
