Description

While Jim Barry's legendary Armagh Shiraz may not always fit the budget, its "little brother," the McRae Wood Shiraz, offers an accessible taste of its prestige—though quantities remain limited. Brimming with rich, dark fruit and classic spice, this wine is perfectly balanced by smoky, charry oak, making it a bold, decadent choice to enjoy young or, ideally, to cellar. The recent release of the 2016 library selection by the Jim Barry team underscores why these wines deserve time to age. Over the years, the layers of complexity and seamless integration of fruit, tannins, and acidity reach a level of sophistication that is nothing short of heavenly.

Smells

Deep, dark smoky notes of plum, chocolate, blackcurrant with hints of sandalwood, leather and brown spice, a symphony of youthful and more mature aromas.

Tastes

Rich and full with lots of deep, dark, smoky notes and Christmas cake, the tannins are serious, but very ripe and yielding, allowing access to the luxurious fruit. The interplay between fruit and tannins is now one, each exemplifying the other and the whole is greater than any of the individual parts. Superb drinking now but will still age a further 5 years+. This will pair with roast lamb or beef. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
