Description
There are a few Australian Shiraz producers that are not like the rest, they stand out from the crowd, making their wines in more of a Syrah style than a Shiraz style. What’s the difference, I hear you say… Well, Syrah is the name for the same grape variety, home to the Northern Rhone, of a European structure with layers of complexity, as opposed to the uber ripe and fruity wines that Australia calls Shiraz. And Mount Langi Ghiran, set amongst the dramatic backdrop of the Great Dividing Range in the Grampians region of Victoria, produce some of the finest and most iconic, cool climate wines in a more European Syrah style. Cliff Edge is a selection of blocks from across their Grampians vineyards, grown on granite soils.
Smells
a perfumed delight of mulberries, blackberries, fresh tobacco leaves, and sandalwood, with a minty lift and brown spice.
Tastes
generous forward fruit instantly lures and attracts. The power and fruit weight are impressive with foreboding dark fruit flavours, layered upon dark chocolate and mint, tightly laced by the chewy and cheek-hugging tannins, framing the fruit, forming a striking cool-climate Syrah. No rush to drink as 7-10 years+ in a temperature-controlled cellar and the results will be nothing short of sensational. Serve with your favourite cut of prime beef.
