You could rightly call it a Waiheke Island Gold Rush. 2021 was a fabulous Waiheke vintage and Obsidian make outstanding Syrah. With slow tourism, slow restaurant and fine wine sales… they accumulated an unforeseen surplus of their entire premium wine portfolio including this 95/100 quality 2021 Estate Syrah. 2021 vintage had ideal growing conditions ripening Syrah to perfection. This stunning 2021 Estate has abundant concentration, power, and finesse! Drinking beautifully at 4-years, it will continue to develop through 2029+.
Smells
Vibrant aromas of dark plum, blackberry, and baking spices with subtle black pepper, savoury, earthy complexities.
Tastes
A deliciously fulsome and stylish Syrah laden with red and dark berry fruits. The plush mid-palate is saturated by a creamy tirade of black plum and cherries, mocha and fresh raspberries dipped in Belgian chocolate… with toasty complexity. Seriously delicious Syrah, a nod to a good Rhone Crozes Hermitage. Perfect with a wide range of roasted red meats.
