Description

In 1859, William Salter cleared 10 acres next to his Mamre Brook homestead in the Barossa and planted Shiraz. 3 years later he had his first vintage, 1800 gallons of red wine he simply called “No 1 Shiraz”. Over the years Saltram have had massive show success with this wine, the old vines and the location on the eastern fringe of the Barossa Valley floor credited for much of the success. Still made using traditional open top fermenters, No 1 Saltram Shiraz is known to reward patience in the cellar for up to 15-20 years .

Smells

Deep and dusty, sweet and savoury, this is a Barossa Shiraz with a difference – far more than just gobs of opulent fruit, it’s cigars, leather, tobacco and handmade liquorice as well as most dark berry fruits you could name.

Tastes

Deliciously opulent and layered with hints of coffee, cocoa powder and plum, giving way to exotic spices and a fine bed of furry tannins. Long and velvety with layers of savoury interest developing with bottle age, this Saltram No 1 Shiraz should be enjoyed with good food and good friends between now and 2030+.
