Their winemaking process is simple yet meticulous: perfectly balanced fruit is gently crushed to preserve whole berries, soaked for 4 days, and wild fermented. The wine is then aged in French oak (just 10% new), to enhance texture & flavours. The Cunning Plan is a beautifully crafted Shiraz that embodies the region’s unparalleled quality and charm… the region that supplies most of the fruit to Penfolds iconic $1,000+ “Grange” Shiraz each year! The Cunning Plan also charmed the judges to take out McLaren Vale’s two most desirable and important annual Champion Trophies – beating the regions finest and often considerably more expensive reds enroute.

Great depth of ripe plum and blackberry flavours permeates the full-bodied and succulent palate threaded with a delicious array of spices. Beautifully fine velvety tannins create an elegant framework to its generosity and the finish has a refreshing Black Forest Gateaux like edge to it. Drinking superbly in its youth but will age and become more complete through 2028+. Match with roasted or grilled meats… a beautiful Shiraz that’s worth building a special meal around! For optimal drinking pleasure, the recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
