Description
Craggy Range Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay was amongst our top selection at the Fine Wine Annual Chardonnay Tasting, and what an exceptional showing! There were several different wines that shared the top scoring spots, all were equally captivating and stunning. The Craggy Range certainly shone brightly. The 2023 vintage may have been defined by significant rain events but hats off to the Craggy Range viticulture and winemaking teams for rising to the challenge. This striking Chardonnay is a testament to their skill—an outstanding wine that proves greatness can shine even in difficult conditions. The palate is precise yet generous, delivering impressive length, power, and finesse without feeling lean. Crafted from multiple parcels of Chardonnay, each planted with diverse clones in the stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this wine is a beautiful expression of site and season, with each parcel adding its own unique character. Once again, a remarkable achievement from the Craggy team.
Smells
Vibrant aromas of oyster shell, grapefruit and flint underpinned by white peach flesh, freshly toasted hazelnuts and brioche.
Tastes
Excellent power throughout, a wine with a precise and impressive palate. Showing notes of
citrus peel, warm bread directed by a fine acid backbone, which builds and builds to a firm, long crescendo. The overall impression is mesmerising. A wine with great delineation, a true reflection of the unique Gimblett Gravels Vineyard. Drinking well from 2026 through 2030+ and will partner with fresh seafood, white meats or vegetarian dishes. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
