The top white wine from Craggy Range, Les Beaux Cailloux Chardonnay, literally translates to The Beautiful stones, makes a triumphant return after a four-year hiatus 2015-2019. The latest 2022 vintage marks the beginning of a series of exceptional releases, showcasing the rejuvenated Gimblett Gravels Vineyard, and where each year the wine keeps getting better and better as the vines find themselves.
Smells
the nose offers a powerful mix of fresh cashews, grapefruit, cracked barley, oyster shell and white peach aromas.
Tastes
a wine with a focused core of fruit with fabulous tension, drive and energy. The oak is generous and nutty, the acidity is vibrant, and the fruit is ripe without overpowering any component. The wine is direct and focused, with excellent length and a brisk finish. Given a few years (6-10 years) in the bottle and this will be seriously outstanding and a serious competitor to any Grand Cru White Burgundy. Perfect with roasted free-range chicken or char-grilled crayfish with fresh pasta. For optimal drinking pleasure serve at 10-13 degrees.
