Description
Esk Valley Artisanal HB 2022 Chardonnay is a blend of contrasting Hawkes Bay vineyard sites. Fruit from parcels of old clone 95 vines in Bay View and old Mendoza vines from the Gimblett Gravels provide a wine with richness and texture. Natural yeast, fermented in French barriques, 10% new, aged nine months on lees with occasional stirring. The 2021 scored 94+ in the Fine Wine Annual Chardonnay tasting and we are sure the 2022 will score equally as high. There is a lot of goodness in each bottle for the price. Don’t delay as it won’t last long……
Smells
diverse aromas, milky, creamy, leesy, lemon with peach, nectarine and hints of grapefruit giving way to undertones of vanilla and toast.
Tastes
Crisp, clean, salty, salivating, engaging and ultimately drinkable with a creamy mid-palate texture. Good weight, concentration, and a satisfying bitter almond finish. Great drinking now through 2025 and a wine that will suit everybody and every occasion. Serve with cheese, fresh catch of the day or vegetarian cuisine.
